Her Father's Eyes
A debut novel by Belinda Rose Bond – love, friendship and heartache permeate every page.William will draw you into his tangled web of lies and deceit with his charm. But don’t be fooled. Behind those dark, mysterious eyes lies a selfish man, a womaniser living a double life, a secret life.William D’Souza was born into a poor family and, having nothing but his ambition to drag himself out of poverty, learnt the art of manipulation from an early age.In Rangoon, Burma, the jewel of Asia, the British Raj and their money aided the ongoing expansion of the port of Rangoon, allowing traders to come from all over Asia. William saw this as an exciting opportunity; could this be his chance to escape poverty?
Working the back-breaking shifts at the port with his fellow migrant workers, they fed the insatiable appetites of the hundreds of steamers all jostling for a position on the portside, demanding their cargo from sunrise to sunset.William was a private man who led a secret life fueled by drink, women and gambling, hidden by a veil of lies. Women who relied on him and loved him fooled themselves into thinking they were the only ones. Blinded by his charm and good looks, they became oblivious to his roving eye.But one fateful day, everything changed.

Impassioned, sensitive and touching
Where women become heroines through their resilience and honour.
A debut novel by Belinda Rose Bond. I found it to be engaging and evocative. The characters were relatable with vivid photographic details that brought it all to life. I couldn’t wait to turn over the next page and found it hard to put down.

Couldn’t put it down
I read this book cover to cover, it really is a page turner. The writing really flows, the women in this book really stand out, William may be what links them but each female character is written so well and shows their flaws and strengths. I loved this book and think it will be stuck in my head for quite a while. Brilliant debut novel from Belinda Rose Bond.

A beautiful book about love, loyalty and heartache
From the first page I knew I was going to love this book, I could hardly put it down without wanting to read more. The twists and turns of William's life, how the women all fell for him. Leaving heartbreak behind. The strength of Ava, the heartache for Isobel, the loyalty from Catherine. I didn’t want this book to end. I just hope they’ll be a sequel so I can hear what happens to Agnes and Hope.

Well what a character William is… credit to the writer and her imagination. Loved the twist the story took and a brilliant ending. Good luck for the future.

About Belinda
For many years, Belinda wanted to tell her story.Using stories told to her by her mother and grandmother of their lives in Rangoon, Burma, Her Father’s Eyes became her debut novel. She traced several paths that her family may have walked along many years previous during her research. It made it a unique experience, and as she followed their journey, she felt their guiding hand.Belinda’s descriptive writing paints a picture of this extraordinary place, its smells, its chaos, but above all, its beauty. The book is a mixing bowl of memories, imagination and life.Belinda lives in Suffolk with her husband, her very own Mr Bond, children and grandchildren. She has now become a full-time writer and has also discovered a talent for writing poetry. Her Father’s Eyes is just the beginning for her, and she is excited for the next chapter of her writer's life.

Impassioned, sensitive and touching
Where women become heroines through their resilience and honour. A debut novel by Belinda Rose Bond. I found it to be engaging and evocative. The characters were relatable with vivid photographic settings that brought it all to life. I couldn’t wait to turn over the next page and found it hard to put down. Set in colonial Rangoon, Burma. William D’Souza was born into a poor family, he perfected the art of manipulation very early on in order to survive. He always promised himself a better life.Striking in looks, charming and with an insatiable appetite for lust he began his journey. The port of Rangoon had heavy investment from the British Raj which opened up trade all over Asia. This is where William seized his opportunity and began working at the port. Day and night he would labour to get closer to his promise. However his deceit and demons create a tsunami of devastation to all those he touches. The writing transports you into the story. I wanted to be that person that lifts the blindfold off all those with naive eyes to reveal the truth behind the calculated charm. One person is not fooled but how many will continue to fall under his spell or is it about to vanish?I loved reading this book, a real pleasure and look forward to the next one!– NimnomYou can see other reader reviews on the Book page.

Her Father's Eyes
She welcomed him into her bed and he held her close, feeling her smooth skin and warm, soft breasts against his chest. He kissed her hard and long, and so their night of passion began. After their lovemaking, they would lay on the bed; their bodies still entwined wet with sweat, their chests rising and falling from their passionate embraces, only slowing as they remained still.Moonlight flooded the room with a blue haze, and leaning over his glistening chest still wet with beads of sweat, she opened the window, allowing the cooler night breeze to flow over their exhausted bodies. William fell asleep first, and as she watched him in his slumber, her eyes followed his strong jawline to his beautiful mouth.
Her fingers ran lightly across his broad chest as it slowly rose and fell with each breath: his strong muscular arms, one around her waist, the other resting on her breast. Whilst gently stroking his handsome face, she thought how lucky to have found such a man.Their passionate lovemaking was a new and exciting experience for a seventeen-year-old girl, and she was beginning to fall in love with him."One day soon, will we be able to tell everyone we are in love?” she whispered; he stirred,
“My sweet Isobel, when the time is right and only then can we tell everyone that we are a couple, are you unhappy?”
